The San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG), a public agency comprised of 18 cities and the county government, has formed an inter-agency committee, which includes the City of San Diego, the San Diego Airport Authority, San Diego Port District, California Department of Transportation, San Diego Metropolitan Transit System and U.S. Department of Defense. This committee engaged Trifiletti Consulting to help develop concepts for improving transportation to the airport and evaluate viable options for future transit, roadway and highway improvements, an automated people mover and other high-speed rail improvements as well as the Intermodal Transportation Center. As a key component of the plan, SANDAG will also work to redefine the ITC and design a “San Diego Grand Central Station,” connecting trolleys, buses and Amtrak trains to the Airport.
Trifiletti Consulting has assisted with the project management of the airport connectivity transportation planning studies, central mobility hub and airport connectivity concepts, and the identification of data gaps and potential need for supplemental studies for a regional transit connection to the San Diego International Airport. Our scope also included developing cooperative agreements between agency stakeholders and supporting interagency coordination to advance the Airport Connectivity Project. Finally, our team supported community outreach efforts via targeted engagement to vet the proposed transportation plans, development of collateral materials and briefing materials, and leading community/stakeholder outreach meetings and public workshops.
